COSMETIC PROCEDURES
LASER HAIR REDUCTION
General Information
· Most common areas of treatment are upper lip, chin, beard area, under arms and bikini area. We do not recommend this procedure for areas around the eye.
· The laser works best on dark brown or black hair. It does not work well on blonde or gray hair
· There is a 50% to 80% reduction in the hair in 3 to 5 treatments. Some patients might need a touch up in certain areas.
· It is not advisable to do the procedure when the skin is tan. The laser is not as effective and increases chance of hyper or hypopigmentation (pigment changes). The changes in skin color do tend to clear in a few month's

Preparing for Visit
· To prepare the area for treatment please do not pluck or wax the treatment area for 4 to 5 weeks prior to your appointment. Please do shave the area clean the morning of your appointment
· We do not recommend the procedure if you are currently pregnant, or if on Accutane in the last six months, or chemotherapy or radiation therapy
· If patient tends to develop cold sores or want laser on the upper lip or chin the patient will need oral Valtrex pills before treatment. (We can prescribe this in the office)
· Treatments themselves take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the area. The first treatment is generally a little longer. Treated skin usually becomes pink to little swollen, like a sunburn, for a couple of hours after each treatment
· Treatments are usually spaced four to six weeks apart for the maximum effectiveness

Cost
· This procedure is considered to be a cosmetic procedure and therefore the patients insurance will not cover this procedure
· The price on the price list is the cost per treatment session.
· Payment is expected at the time of service
· The initial consultation for this procedure is free but will be limited to a discussion about the laser hair reduction procedure only.
